"The Lightning Thief"- ages 9-12

I read this book last summer for school and I was reminded of it when I was at the movies last night and saw the preview for the movie. I was able to enjoy the book but, at times, thought the events were slightly forced. I mean, I felt like the way they just happened to find a hotel that was really fun but slightly suspicious and time moves faster so they have less time to get to the end was too easy and uncreative. This book is one of many others in a series so if you enjoy this one, you may like to read the others! The Lightning Thief, by Rick Riordan.

  2. If this book seems uncreative to you, read Homer's Odyssey and I promise you will be freaked out by all the connections you draw if you read carefully. The Lotus Casino part wasn't an uncreative coincience--Riordan just knows his Greek Mythology. the Lighning Thief (as well as the rest of the series) was meant to be a modern-day rendition of the original greek text.

  3. Thank you so much for adding to the review! I was able to draw the connection to Homer's stroyline the first time I read the book, but I still felt it was not the way a better author could've adapted the Siren scene in the Odyssey.I understand what you mean about the Casino, but I felt the theme of temptation really could have been improved. Thanks again for checking out my blog!
